BYE BYE BLACKBIRDS

Written by Randolph Umberger

Directed by Eric Coleman

An amusing and ultimately poignant play about the struggles of two lost souls. Both homeless and suffering from mental illness, a young man and older woman encounter each other one weekend in Harlem behind an abandoned school building, and the “turf” fight begins.

ENTERTAINER’S EULOGY

Written by Darian Dauchan

Directed by Jenny Koons

In 1918, a street performer mesmerizes the crowd and a minstrel act is born. In 1976, a soul singer signs a three album record contract that will make him a star. In 1989, a boxer fights the bout that will determine his destiny as champ or contender. This is the story of Entertainer's Eulogy, a theatrical requiem, chronicling the rise and fall of the African American entertainer. A cautionary tale on the price of fame and showbiz, and the people whose lives are forever changed by it.

PUDDIN’

Written by Tia Dionne Hodge

Directed by Melody Brooks

Reporter Jackie Fellows is sent to interview Mrs. Roletta Watkins to get her secret bread pudding recipe. It is through Roletta’s story of motherhood, love, and mystical happenings that Jackie discovers the truth about Mr. Watkins’ disappearance and the truth about herself. Puddin’  is about how the magic of “some sweet dough” can pull out the truth. As everyone knows, “the proof is in the puddin’. ”  Originally presented as a one-act in VFE6.0

RED

Written by Letitia Guillory

Directed by Lauren Rosen

Bert has lost his job and the mortgage is past due. Arlene is overworked and under-loved. Gabe is tweaked and looking for a skull to crack. And Bobby just wants to play baseball. RED takes us on a sweaty ride of race, class and sports in an American family.
