PRODUCTIONS 2005-2006 Floor Show in the Sweet Life by Louise SchwarzDirector/Dramaturge: Ariel NazryanThe Play: A mother must choose between her children: a retarded son and a daughter he tortured as a child. The Floor Show tonight is a Thanksgiving Dinner thrown by Lynn Spalding for her explosive progeny. What is unconditional love? A risky and hilarious exploration of family and forgiveness, and everything we don’t discuss around the Thanksgiving table.
The Artists: Sincer receiving her MFA from Columbia, Louise Schwarz’s work has been produced at Women’s Project and Productions Directors’ Forum, The Cherry Lane Alternative, New Dramatists, The Oscar Hammerstein Center, and The Mark Taper Forum’s New Work Festival in Los Angeles, among others. Angela Pietropinto (Lynn Spalding), was a founding member of the Manhattan Project Theatre Co. under the direction of Andre Gregory and made her first professional appearance in the tile role in their Obie-winning production of ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Since then she has enjoyed a career in leading and featured roles on and Off-Broadway, regional, television and films (WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE, SHAFT, NOBODY’S FOOL, GOODFELLAS, among others.) The Question: This play deals with traditionally untouchable subject matter and grossly uncivilized behavior. The humor with which this awful story is told is the play’s greatest accomplishment, and compels us to bear witness to a painfully private situation. We want to see this brave but prickly play serve Off-Broadway audiences in the 2006 season and we need help strategizing its future and determining the feasibility of our dreams for its continued life. Presented as a Staged Reading in Summer Harvest, August 2005 |
