    PROGRAMS — YOUTH INTERNSHIPS

New Perspectives Theatre works with high school and college students so they can learn first-hand about the technical and administrative aspects of the not-for-profit theatre community through structured internships. The program places an emphasis on recruiting minority interns and helps to improve their communication, organizational and conceptual skills, and provide a mentoring experience for young people who may lack positive relationships with adults. Undergraduate and graduate students from Hunter College, NYU, Antioch College, Rutgers University, Philadelphia's University of the Arts, and Savannah College of Art & Design have participated in the program. 10th-12th graders from the School for the Physical City, Bronx Lab School and the Settlement College Readiness Program have also been interns in the past. For more information about our Youth Internship program, please feel free to contact us.

    SUMMER 2010

THOMAS MUZART is a French student majoring in Cultural Affairs at Sciences Po Lyon. Convinced that art and especially performing art has a major impact on our society, he has taken part in several cultural projects in France. In 2007, he led a summer camp with underserved children based on improvisation.  He has also played in a Theatre Company in Bourges, working on plays written by persons fighting against their illiteracy issues.  In 2008, he spent a year studiing at the Univeristy of Montreal in communication and culture. This experience gave him the opportunity to discover another way of expression : classic opera. Studying in the singing school Genevieve Lenoir, he developed his tenor voice and his acting skills.  Back in Lyon, he kept on exploring the wide possibilities of performing art including an internship with a Contemporary Dance company in Lyon.  These different experiences led him to New York as an intern in New Perspectives Theatre Company. As he intends to become an artistic director,  he assists Melody Brooks during the summer 2010. Next year, he is planning to set a cultural project in South America for children called “the little thinkers”, a project of performing art based on The Thinker by Rodin.

HOLLY HUTCHESON, a New York City native, comes to the New Perspectives Theatre Company as an intern for the month of July.  Holly has been in several productions at her school and is excited to spend her summer learning more about the theatre industry.  Her previous work experience includes being a camp counselor for children going into third grade and several community service projects.  Holly is deeply involved with AIDS Walk New York and for the past 4 years she has raised over $5,000 for each walk.  On the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Holly spent a few days in New Orleans giving out food to those who had been affected by the disaster.  Holly has also worked at soup kitchens in Boston and painted a school in Washington D.C. with D.C. Cares.  At her High School, Holly has been elected into several leadership positions, including: Varsity Swim Co-Captain, Chorus Co-Head, Community Service Board Co-Head and Associate Editor of the 2011 Yearbook.  In September Holly will be starting her senior year at the Nightingale-Bamford School in Manhattan.
